Way to go Saints!!!

: (
I missed posting last evening. I just didn't feel well and I forgot to. I even forgot to post a draft I had composed earlier. So, I'll just have to try again next month.
I started the Crochet Soft Wave Throw. I can't remember how to do half double crochets, double crochets, triple crochets, etc, so I have to look up how to do them in my Crochet for Dummies book. I had hoped to have it done by the end of the year, but as slow as I am, I doubt that I will be half way done. I'm also working on the Irish Hiking Scarf. I should probably focus on it and get it done first. I also have the Stitch Diva's Hairpin Lace Cardi Wrap in progress too. I started it much earlier this year.
I've seen the "Happy California Cow" commercial on TV several times. Apparently you can vote for the next "Happy Cow". I went to the website, and cast a vote for Soo because she's got SEOUL!!! Calipornia Calipornia Hey! How cute! LOL
The Saints are playing the Patriots tonight. I'm gonna go get some snacks and watch the rest of the game. GO SAINTS!!!

I love a quiet Saturday
Earlier today I watched The Thin Man made in 1934, on TCM. Not so much for the movie itself, but to see the clothes the characters were wearing. Although the 1940's is my favorite decade for clothes. The clothes from the 1930's were quite lovely. And I loved seeing the way the homes were decorated also.
I completed the Dream Swatch Head-wrap/Scarf Thingie and finished reading Duma Key. I'm working on my Irish Hiking Scarf tonight and will begin the Crochet Soft Wave Throw tomorrow.

TGIF!
I am so glad it's Friday. I don't have to go to class today and am taking another day to just read and knit. I'm hoping to finish reading Duma Key and knitting the Dream Swatch Head-wrap/Scarf Thingie. If I am able to get it completed, I'm going to start on the Crochet Soft Wave Throw, from Knit and Crochet Today, Season Two, Show 219. And the book I'll be finishing up is The Triumph of Individual Style. I'm hoping to get a couple more books from my summer reading list done by the end of the year.

A quiet day

I did it!
I got all my hours! I was only going to stay 3-4 hours at class today. When I woke up my back "was killing" me. The only reason I went in was because a client was scheduled for a hot stone facial and I was the only student esthetician that could do it. The others haven't learned about them yet. That client changed her mind and got a "Holistic" facial. But I digress. Anyway, after cancellations and juggling the clients on the books, I had to do a client that didn't come in until 4 o'clock. I didn't leave until 5:30. That gave me the hours I needed. Still need some services, but I got the hours in! LOL
I didn't take a lunch break, so I was starving when I left school. Walt and I went to Stone Soup Cafe, and, since it was Wednesday, I had my favorite curry chicken salad sandwich. We came home, I watched The Biggest Loser: Where are They Now? I love that show, and I LOVE Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels.
I'm so exhausted. Going to bed early and get some rest. Thanksgiving will be quiet here. Walt and I will cook and have an early dinner. Looking forward to the dinner and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Today
I have about 7 more hours left in this class to get all my hours. I might be able to get them in tomorrow. But there is still the issue of getting the rest of my services. I was supposed to do a back and a lower leg wax today, but both the clients canceled. I have a galvanic scheduled for next Tuesday. I think the nail class is starting the first week of December, so there is still time for me to get my services and be ready for the nail class.
I haven't seen who won Dancing With the Stars, so I'm going to zip through the recording in a minute. Whitney Houston is singing now and looks good considering the things she has gone through in the past few years. The only thing I'm really interested in is seeing who won. Even though I'm a huge fan of Kelly Osbourne, I hope Donny Osmond wins. I was watching The Biggest Loser "live" while it was on. I was saddened to see that Allen wasn't going to be in the final four. I don't have one favorite that I hope wins though. All of the people on the ranch this season were a lot nicer than the season with Vicky and Heba, a couple of seasons ago.
Well, I'm off to see who wins DWTS! Good night all!

Ramblings
Last Thursday I posted that this blog was initially started to share my sewing with a sewing sister (not a birth sister, but you know what I mean). It quickly changed to include my rants and raves and ramblings. I still sew, although not very often. Various things, including my job, family, class, health etc...have prevented me from sewing. I know I could accomplish a lot in just 5-10 minutes each day. I have my machines set up in a permanent sewing area in the Florida room. But I don't want to sew when I'm not at my best mentally and physically. I would make mistakes and have to rip apart seams and re-sew them. I'd rather just wait until my sewing mojo comes back. Which will be soon I hope, as I have a couple of items that have been waiting months for me to complete. One of which is the gorgeous Amy Butler Kimberly bag. I basically just have to sew the bottom on it, and it will be finished.
Walt and I have been putting out seeds for the cardinals for the past 3-4 years. One or more will come to the orange tree in the back yard and chirp until someone comes out and gives them seeds. Occasionally on the weekends, when I sleep in, ( I kid you not) one of them will sit on the tree next to my bedroom and chirp until I get up and go to the back door and put out seeds.
My Mom used to love to watch and listen to cardinals when I was younger. She has a couple of ceramic ones that sat on the living room window sill. One Saturday, while we were watching TV, one of them fell off. Mon wondered aloud "Why did it fall?" We looked behind the sheers and there was a huge black snake moving along the sill. My Mom was deathly afraid of snakes, and she wouldn't let me touch it even though it was a harmless black snake. So, we called my Dad and he came in and grabbed it and took it outdoors. A little excitement to break up a boring TV show. LOL
We have several species of animals here in our back yard, wild animals...racoons, the occasional black snake, squirrels, different birds ie...cardinals, doves, blue jays, and lets not forget my two wild boys, Pongo and Buddy. LOL I never thought I'd say this, because I love living in the city, but, I'd love to live on a farm again and have chickens, cattle, and ducks, etc...
On Friday the 13 I posted about Miss Snickers and the call for love, prayers, and doggie zen to be sent her way. She put up a gallant fight, but this morning she went to the bridge. My heart goes out to her family and friends. It's so difficult to lose a member of the family.

Saints
You just KNOW I have spent the past 3 hours watching (on TV) the Saints play the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium. I am so proud of the Saints. I have no doubts that they will go on to win the Super Bowl this season.

Blogs
I've spent the last 20 minutes of my morning reading blogs. I have about 600 blogs listed on my blogroll. Some of these blogs have daily posts. I don't read every post on every blog. I have a few favorites that I do read every post. There are a few "dogs with blogs" I read every word. Cause I am animal person, specifically a dog person. Several blogs where the blogger posts her daily outfit, (there is even a dude that posts HIS daily outifts) cause I love clothes, whether they are home sewn or not. (Home sewn has a whole new connotation these days, most definitely NOT a "loving hands at home look," but that's a whole nother post.) Nail and make-up blogs and a few art, scrapbooking, crazy quilting, beading, knitting, and some "just because."
Glitter Graphics - GlitterLive.com
While reading blogs I was led to a site that had the above graphic on it. It reminded me of this by R. Crumb:
Which, of course, reminded me of this:
Then I went off on a nostalgic blast from the past. I loved watching Soul Train, and spent hours mimicing the Soul Train dancers. I couldn't resist posting this one. Check out the platform shoes on the first dancer!
Let's hear it for the fashions of the '70s!!

arrrgh
Walt and I went to Romano's Macroni Grill for an early dinner. I got the warm spinach and scallop salad. MMMMMMM And Walt got the Parmesan-Crusted Chicken. But, Walt brought a piece of chocolate cake home for me for dessert. I ate just a couple of bites and it was so rich, I immediately got sick to my stomach. I don't eat a lot of sweet sugary foods and this reminds me why. I just feel nauseated.
I still have about 15 more hours for this esthetician class. I probably won't get them in until after Thanksgiving. I'll get about 5 on Monday, 3 on Tuesday (massage therapist class uses the clinic on Tuesday mornings, and maybe a couple hours on Wednesday. I'm not going in the day after Thanksgiving. I'm concerned about getting all my services in. I still need to do an oatmeal mask. Lately most of my clients have been "mature" with normal to dry skin and don't need an oatmeal mask. I'm not sure why the oatmeal mask is such a big concern. I'd think there would be more concern about using some of the machines, and doing glycolic peels. I don't know. Just saying.
I don't know how to make the pics align on the same row. If anyone knows how please leave a comment. Thanks!

Sewing/SWAP
I started this blog in April 2006. Initially it was to communicate with a sewing sister about my "Sewing With a Plan" or SWAP. I didn't complete the SWAP. The patterns I chose to sew up can be seen here. I still have all the patterns, most of the items are still in style. The most trendy item was the Butterick twisty top 4789. I am still planning on making a "SWAP", I'm just not sure when I'll get around to it. I was going to wear the new wardrobe at my paralegal job. Since I'm not working as a paralegal, I'll need to make a few changes in the colors.
A lot of cosmeticians (and estheticians) wear primarily black. This way the client is the "star of the show". I'm not sure where I heard that. Maybe Tabitha's Salon Takeover. Although I think she was referring specifically to hairstylists. One of my instructors told the class that estheticians wear black. Good thing I look good in black! LOL!

WTF
I listened to the daily news this afternoon while I was checking and responding to email. I don't usually watch the news, just a quick read on cnn.com.
One of the segments was regarding death row in Florida. (Please note that the info I heard on the newscast does not totally match the info on the Florida Department of Corrections website.) It reported that out of the 74 inmates that had died since 1993, only 37 was executed. The others died of illness. Including an inmate that was on death row for more than 15 years, died of cancer, and was exonerated posthumously due to DNA. There are 4 men who is older than 70, 54 men who is older than 60, and one man who is 82. Some of the inmates have been on death row for decades. Prosecutor Willie Meggs, 2nd circuit, stated "The governor should sit down sign 60-70 of 'em & let's get started & do a couple a week, til we get caught up. He concedes the way the death penalty is applied now is totally ineffective. I have to say that I agree. A person receives a death sentence and it should be upheld in a timely manner. Justice for the victim. This is most definitely not a joking matter but I like the comment made by my fav comedian Ron White regarding the death penalty in Texas. "Texas is putting in a death penalty express lane. In Texas, we have the death penalty and we use it. If you come to Texas and kill somebody, we will kill you back." Amen. I realize that not everyone will agree with me. But, this is America and everyone is entitled to an opinion. nuff said.
On Saturday, an endangered Western Lowland Gorilla baby was born healthy at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, Japan. AAAAHHHHHH. She is such a cute baby. I hope this link works and you can see the baby.
I'll just gloss over the Demi Moore W cover, and go to "the sexiest man alive". Johnny Depp. oh yeah. again. nuff said.
My iMac is making a horrendous noise from the speakers. Everything else is okay. I really regret switching to a Mac. I figure in about a year most of the bugs should be out of Windows 7 and I'll get a new pc. I love getting new computers. I can hardly wait.

Class Hours
I looked at my hours while I was at school today. I have approximately 270. I need 300 to complete the class. I haven't turned in my time sheets for the past two weeks. I've got to get my services stamped off and the sheets turned in so I know exactly what I have left to do. There is a nail class starting after Thanksgiving, and I hope to be in it.
I'm looking forward to going back to work. I'm actually hoping I will get a job primarily doing nails, at least for the time being. I have a lot of other classes I want to take, including an Associate of Science in Natural Health Concentration in Advanced Paramedical Skin Care degree at Florida Collage of Natural Health. I think the reason I'm looking forward to going back to work is because there is no way my new career will be as stressful and my old one. Like I said, I'm looking forward to working in the beauty industry!

whooo baby!!!
Chalk up another win for the Saints!!
I spent most of the day, reading Duma Key by Stephen King. It's a long book, and I don't get a chance to read every day. It was a substitute for Saturday by Ian McEwan on my summer reading list, a couple of summers ago. I still don't have all the books read, but, I'll keep plugging away til I get them all read. I need to put reviews on Amazon for the books on the list.
I am so not ready for Monday and the start of a new week. It seems as though the weekend just started. Never enough time to get everything done I want to get done. I still have notes from class that I want to type. I need to go to a friend's house and do her make-up. I don't know how many more "looks" I need to do to get my certificate. I still have to do more work on my notebook that has to be handed in. I need to complete my resume and choose a business card. So much to do, so little time. LOL I'll manage to get it all done though. I always do. I wanted to do some knitting on the head-wrap scarf thingie, but didn't get around to that.
I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Oh, I wish I were
an Oscar Mayer wiener. LOL I saw this (the Oscar Mayer wienermobile, for those who aren't familiar) sitting outside the Winn Dixie grocery store when I left school yesterday. Walt went through the parking lot so I could take a quick pic of it. I apologize for the poor pic. I didn't have my camera with me, just my iphone. The parking lot was busy, full of people trying to get parking places and pictures, so I couldn't get out of the truck and take my time to get a better pic.
I don't usually watch Jay Leno, but last night I didn't feel like getting up to get the remote to change the channel. Terry Bradshaw was one of his guests. I didn't realize he had such a crazy sense of humor! The guy was a hoot! I'll be sure to watch for him to be a guest on other shows. Too bad he can't have his own show, he's a lot funnier than some comedians I've seen. LOL

As you may know
Miss Snickers is struggling
Mightily
Along with her family.
(The best place to keep up with updates is her Gussie’s blog.)
Last night looked as if it might have been her last.
This morning she rebounded with improved symptoms.
She is far from out of the woods
But she and her family
Including her gentle and loving brother Butchy
Have been granted another day.
We can’t help but believe
that part of the improvement is because of
The support and love that have surrounded her
From all around the world
Thanks to the linked paws
Of her blogging friends.
The Power of the Paw
We are asking everyone to set your alarms
And at exactly 11:00 PM GMT on Saturday 14 Nov 09
(Go to this link to find what time that is for you)
5:00 PM Saturday evening in Iowa
as Snickers’ family sits down to eat
Turn toward them (in the central USA)
And join together in a silent minute
Of prayer, meditation, contemplation, reflection
Whatever feels right to you.
Followed by whatever means of communication
You choose.
Arrooing
Barking
Howling
Yipping
Yapping
Wooing
Meowing
Mewing
Purring
To wish and send Miss Snickers and her family
whatever is in your hearts
That will help them feel the Love and Support
They need right now.
Personally, we'll be praying for a Miracle.
Then
Blow a Kiss
and send your Love and Prayers and Best Wishes
to Miss Snickers and her Family
and they will feel their arrival
in the breeze.
OK?
We believe it will help.
And we’ll do anything in our power right now
To help.
Love,
Bogart

HMMMMMM
I'm a bit irritated. I was having trouble with getting on the internet last evening. So, I thought I would quickly edit the "iTunes" draft I had started on the 8th and publish it since I didn't have much time. I didn't think that it would publish for the 8th but for yesterday, when I actually "told" blogger to publish it. Now it looks as though I didn't have a post for yesterday for the NaBloPoMo challenge.
Today is Friday the 13th. I always think of the first Friday the 13th movie I saw. Back then, I enjoyed the occasional stab and hack movie, now I learn towards the more cerebral horror films, which are few and far between, but, I digress. LOL I still remember how everyone in the theater applauded when Mrs. Voorhees, (played by Betsy Palmer) got decapitated. There is probably going to be a Friday the 13th marathon today (there usually is, and I will probably watch at least parts of the movies). I think there has been 11 or 12 sequels and the hockey mask didn't appear until the second sequel (or Friday the 13th part III).
I received my package of eye lashes from 3D Beauty today. I'm hoping I will be able to take the training before Thanksgiving. Some female people are eyebrow people, some are eye shadow people, I am soooo an eyelash person. I love long fake lashes, with feathers, jewels, and even ones that have looped lashes. I had some of those back in the (gasp!) '70s. That's when my love of fake lashes and nails began. I worked as a cashier in a drugstore. When I wasn't busy, I would go to the cosmetic counter and talk customers into buying the individual lashes, and I would offer to put the lashes on for them. I was in heaven. I got to see all the new cosmetics and help put up the displays. I don't know why it took so long to get back to something I really love. Well, I'm off to watch the DVD, practice with my mannequin, and play with my lashes!

Country Music
First of all, I just want to say a very big THANK YOU! to all the veterans.
I've been listening to the Country Music Awards while reading email, my fav blogs, and monitoring a couple of forums. I used to be a huge fan of country music, but there aren't many new artists that I am a fan of these days. I do like Sugarland, the lead female singer has an unusual voice. I am disappointed that Brooks & Dunn are breaking up. I have loved their music since the very first song I heard them sing. Ronnie Dunn has an amazing voice. They have been together for a long time so I guess it's time for them to move on in their separate ways. I like Kenny Chesney and I enjoy Big & Rich, they have a unique sound that I think has to grow on a person. I really, really like Blake Shelton, he has a very good voice, and.....he's awfully cute too! especially on The Dreamer album cover. Almost time to find out who wins Entertainer of the Year on the CMAs! Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will be presenting the award.
I am so ready for the weekend. I don't know why I am so tired this week. I love taking this class, but I am ready for it to be over and to start working again. I still have quite a few services I must do before I can go to the nail class. I think I just need a break from everything. A break from class, studying, trying to keep the house clean, etc....I'd love to be able to go on a vacation to Colorado, stay in a small cabin, go skiing. Read by the fire. Hot cocoa in the evenings. Sigh......
