Music

I was lucky to have grown up with music in the house. I can remember a few times, as a child, going with my parents to drive my brother someplace so he could work. He played a guitar back then. My brother wasn't even old enough to drive. He started out "playing music" when he was very young. His band would always practice at Mom and Dad's house.

My mom LOVED rock 'n roll. This was back in a time when Elvis was scandalous. She "set a few people straight" when they critized her for letting my brother play rock 'n roll.




They also listened to country music. Real country music. Not the watered down versions that you hear on the radio now. Legends like George Jones, Johnny Cash, back before "The Man in Black" was married to June Carter and she was part of The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle. Bobby Helms, Eddy Arnold, Furlin Husky, Hank Locklin, Hank Williams, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Sonny James, Webb Pierce. I'm sure you get the picture. I'm just as sure I left out the names of a few other legends too.

Personally, I've always loved cajun and zydeco, blues, jazz, opera, classical, and what I called soul music. James and The Famous Flames. Wilson "Wicked" Pickett. Diana Ross and the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, Mary Wells, The Marvelettes, Tammi Terrell, The Isley Brothers, Jr. Walker and the All-Stars. I know I've left a lot out here also.

I pretty much have liked every genre of music I have ever heard. As I say "from Ambient to Zydeco". I couldn't imagine living in a silent world without music.

Country Music

First of all, I just want to say a very big THANK YOU! to all the veterans.



I've been listening to the Country Music Awards while reading email, my fav blogs, and monitoring a couple of forums. I used to be a huge fan of country music, but there aren't many new artists that I am a fan of these days. I do like Sugarland, the lead female singer has an unusual voice. I am disappointed that Brooks & Dunn are breaking up. I have loved their music since the very first song I heard them sing. Ronnie Dunn has an amazing voice. They have been together for a long time so I guess it's time for them to move on in their separate ways. I like Kenny Chesney and I enjoy Big & Rich, they have a unique sound that I think has to grow on a person. I really, really like Blake Shelton, he has a very good voice, and.....he's awfully cute too! especially on The Dreamer album cover. Almost time to find out who wins Entertainer of the Year on the CMAs! Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will be presenting the award.

I am so ready for the weekend. I don't know why I am so tired this week. I love taking this class, but I am ready for it to be over and to start working again. I still have quite a few services I must do before I can go to the nail class. I think I just need a break from everything. A break from class, studying, trying to keep the house clean, etc....I'd love to be able to go on a vacation to Colorado, stay in a small cabin, go skiing. Read by the fire. Hot cocoa in the evenings. Sigh......

Last Night: Country music with a Vengence!!!

I went to the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Florida.
It's usually about 10 days long, the typical fair type scene, with livestock contests, arts and crafts
judging, and they serve the usual "fair type foods," including elephant
ears, corn dogs, burgers, etc...but they also serve strawberry shortcake.
YUMMY!! The berries are huge!! and very sweet!!.
They also have musicians/bands playing every
afternoon and night. Last night, members of the
MuzikMafia, Big & Rich,


and MY personal favorite,



Cowboy Troy, was there, also appearing was Two Foot Fred and John Anderson(newest member of the Mafia, who had appeared earlier in the day. Big & Rich put on a terrific show. They play some of their new
songs coming out on CD in June, and many of their older songs. They touched on the current affairs in Darfur. And implored each person
to do what they could to stop the abuse, not only there but in our own country also.
