Crayons

I love crayons. I love the colors. I still have a box of 64. I love looking at all the colors, my favorites being the different blue shades. I especially love the way crayons smell. It takes me back to my childhood quicker than any other smell or any music can. Not just any crayon though. It has to be a Crayola Crayon. They have a very distinctive pleasant odor.



When I first became a nurse we still had to wear white uniforms. We weren't allowed to wear the cute colorful scrubs that nurses wear today. I tried to be colorful and all matchy-matchy. I always had a hair ribbon, barrette, or tie, with earrings and a purse in the same color. I wore a different color every day. I must have had 25-30 pairs of earrings, "thingies" for my hair and purses. I changed colors every day. These days I'm too lazy to change my earrings every day. GASP! I'll put in a pair and wear them for a couple of weeks. But these days I have a lot better quality of jewelry and don't even worry about whether or not the metal matches any other jewelry I happen to be wearing. I was so organized that on Sunday I would have a week's worth of uniforms and accessories ready for work. I had one of those little purse organizers that made it quick to change purses. Yeah, I'll carry the same bag over and over too. It's funny what is important to you when you're young, and loses importance as you get older.

Boo Hiss LOL

Well, the Saints let the Bucs win yesterday. Quite frankly, I AM disappointed. The Saints should have won that game. Garrett Hartley should have made that 37-yard field-goal. But no one can blame him for the lost game. You play as a team, win as a team and lose as a team.

This week I'll be:
1. knitting
2. listening to the new Adam Lambert CD (Am I the only one who is disappointed he will not be on ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve?)
3. reading The Vein of Gold: A Journey to Your Creative Heart by Julia Cameron
4. AND waiting for the apple to drop in Times Square!


I'm trying to make a few changes to my blog for the new year. Just a few sutble changes. You'll notice my signature line will be changed due to changing my name. Several of my friends call me Tesla, due to my obsession with Nikola Tesla. So I thought what better way to honor him, and all his contributions to society. (I'll elaborate on him in a later post. I recommend reading Tesla: Man Out of Time by Margaret Cheney.) I think Tesla will better suit the person I have become over the past year. I'll also change my divider to pink lips. I love these lips! LOL It's in honor of my love of make-up and beauty.

Through out the holiday season I've had music on this blog. Now, I LOVE music, as I've posted about in the past. The latest playlist was several versions of Auld Lang Syne I enjoyed. While making the changes on my blog, I would click back and forth testing and it finally just started getting my last nerve, so I just deleted the play list. I'm sure it will be less annoying to the few very nice people who read my blog. Each and every one of you is appreciated very much.

This is the time of year that most people get nostalgic. Thinking back over the past year, remembering the highlights, births, deaths, and other things in the news. I always intensely dislike when the news runs a list of everyone who has died. It's just so very sad. It also reminds me of people who we hold dear in out hearts but no longer have contact with. Co-workers we promised we would keep in touch with when we left the job. Teachers, fellow students etc......

This is also a time when we make resolutions for the new year. I think pretty much all of them are forgotten by March. I rarely make New Year resolutions. I do make goals thought. Some I meet, some I don't. I don't see myself as a failure if I don't meet them. They have nothing to do with my value as a person. I have my 101 Things that I work on a little at a time. Some are long term goals, some are short term goals. Some things are serious, and some are silly and fun. And some will definitely get carried over to my next 101 Things list in 2011. However, I've decided that I am going to make a few specific goals for 2010. They are:

00001. Sew a well fitting white shirt (I LOVE a white shirt with jeans or denim skirt.)
00002. Make a chainmail bracelet (I have several patterns to make a chainmail bracelet, now to decide which one to make.)
00003. Smock a dress for my "Big Girl" doll (I have a small collection of Sew Beautiful magazines I can choose a pattern/design from.)
00004. Make matching aprons for me, my "Big Girl" doll, and AG Molly (I already have the patterns for these, Simplicity 3746.
00005. Start and continue taking yoga classes (I am a member of two gyms. Surely I can get the schedule and attend the classes.)
00006. Find a hairstylist that can cut my hair the way I want it cut (I'll elaborate on this in a later post.)
00007. Make a wardrobe scrapbook (I've actually already started this.)

That should do it. Seven things to do in 12 months. Yeah, I might have enough time. LOL

Make-up and nails

This is what my nails look like after a week of using Nailtek products. They are about the same length, but I have filed them a couple of times to get them to the proper shape. My nails do feel stronger and healthier though. You can see a couple of blemishes on the nails, but I'm not motivated enough to change my polish and reapply everything today. Tomorrow is Friday and I'll do it tomorrow night. The nail polish I'm wearing is a frankenpolish I made several months ago. I added what was probably some shade of red to Sally Hansen's Sheer Beige Gloss. It's such a pretty shade of pink. I'm gonna try to find a commercial brand as close to this shade as possible. I've loved almost every color she has created. I'm going to get a pedicure tomorrow from on of the students in the nail class. I can hardly wait! It's been ages since I've had one. I usually just polish my own. It's nice to be pampered a little. LOL



One of the things on my 101 Things list is to buy myself a right hand ring. Back in March, I finally found one that was exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't looking for an expensive ring. Just a little something that I thought was pretty and had some small diamonds in it. So, here it is....isn't it pretty?











I have recently become a MAC convert. Last weekend, I got a make-up primer, Sheertone blush in blushbaby and Amplified Creme Lipstick in Craving. Blush baby is a very beautiful shade. If you look closely at my ring finger you will be able to see it. It's slightly darker than my skin tone and I love the way it looks. It's a beige-pink color. The next blush I want to get is blushcreme in the color posey which is a rosey pink. When I went to MAC for a makeup demonstration I saw a beautiful color called Daft Pink, but I can't find it on the MAC website. I don't know, I might change my mind....LOL...all the colors are so beautiful!

My Saturday so far

I got to my Weight Watchers meeting early this morning and got my favorite seat. LOL
I felt really good because I met my 25 pound goal this week. I had hoped to make it two weeks ago but maintained, then I gained .6 last week. This week I'm down 2.4 woo hoo!
Afterwards I went to Joann's Fabrics (didn't have much time, I had an appointment with an optometrist). They had Simplicity patterns on sale for 1.99, but I couldn't find the ones I wanted in my size. Then I couldn't find the things I needed to complete my bracelet. (I got the beads from Fire Mountain Gems earlier in the week.) I'm just gonna send them another order and maybe I can make it next week. I just felt like doing something crafty this weekend.
I watched the Dr. Keith Ablowshow Friday. The subject was "Inside The Minds Of Female Body Builders". They have inspired me to get involved again. Back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth I was very involved in the lifestyle. I admired (and still do) Nicole Bass and Chyna (before her life started going downhill). There are numerous female bodybuilders that I admired, Kay Baxter, Kike Eloma, Lyn Conkwright, Georgia Miller Fudge, and Bev Francis. I know there are a lot more I can't remember. I didn't want to get as big as the ladies who competed in Ms. Olympia, but I liked the fact that when I "made a muscle" people took notice. So, on Monday morning it's off to the gym.
I finally finished another book from my 2006 Summer Reading List (see side bar). I have several of them started. I keep one in the truck and one in the car, and one next to my bed. I also read several magazines (one of the 101 things is to get caught up on reading them). I spend most of my reading time reading texts and studying for class. And of course, I spend time here on the pc reading blogs and doing research for class.
I still haven't taken pictures of Hannah, the lawn goose. I'm not sure yet where she is going to be placed. And she still doesn't have any clothes.

Fire Mountain Gems

This afternoon as I was getting ready to go to class someone knocked on the front door. I peeked out the window and saw that it was Fed-Ex. Since Walt was expecting a package I asked him to go to the door. When he came back into the living room, he told me it was for me. It was from Fire Mountain Gems. hmmmmmm......I haven't ordered from them in a while. What could it be? I opened the package and there was a catalog and.....a package of G-S Hypo Cement. There was also a very nice note from Marlynn. In it she stated she had read my blog entry where I spoke of having problems with my bracelet and sent me the cement to fix it. How cool is that??!!

I have been a customer of Fire Mountain Gems in the past, and received very good service. After this you can believe that I will be a customer again, and again, and again! Since I have exams in my next two classes and need to spend spare time studying, I'll get my order in on Thursday for the delicas to make the tiger amulet bag and beads to make a bracelet.

bracelet

This is my first piece of jewelry. It is made from Dalmation jasper oval snowflake obsidian cabochons. I love these colors and think they will match several items in the SWAP I will be making. I have on order more items from Fire Mountain Gems.

I found some pretty patterns for making amulet bags here. I especially like the tiger and snow leopard. It's been quite a while since I've done beading of this type. I'd really like to get started doing it again. Patterns and beads are so much easier to get than when I was beading back in the early '70s.

Blogroll

I'm getting really frustrated. I've been trying to set up a blogroll for
a couple of weeks now. I am making progress, but it is awfully slow. I
am getting the message I need to use the correct user name and not my
email address. BUT...BUT...BUT!! I am using the user name I was set up with!!

This isn't the only thing I'm having a problem with. I can't get the code
from flickr to work on here either. I am not familiar with css or java-
script or XML, whichever it is, to figure out where/what the errors are.

It took me a while to figure out the "glittering lips" errors so they would
show up.

The two books I got at Barnes and Noble yesterday are about XML and javascript. I'm hoping I can get an inkling of how these languages work.

I really miss working with the guys at CGS. They were always up on the latest in geek chic. We had great fun talking about programing languages, the newest technology, and computers in general. We had an interesting job and had lives after work. They were smart and funny. We all promised we would keep in touch, but you know how that goes.....we go in different directions and lead different lives now..... I do see Miss Rosalyn on line in my Yahoo IM contact list every now and then.

I got some glue at Joann's yesterday to glue the sets in my bracelet, so they wouldn't pop out. I still have to wait get new pliers to finish it. The ones I have aren't working very well. As soon as I finish the bracelet, I'll post a pic. I've got to order supplies to make a couple more too. I get them from Fire Mountain Gems. They have some really nice things there. I want to try the Art Clay, as I love silver jewelry. And I especially love bracelets! I'm not a big earring or necklace fan, even though they can "finish" an outfit.
